Santa's Visit.

So, i was browsing the website for Parker Whitney School, where Aiden attends speech classes to help prepare him for kindergarten this coming year, (yikes!) & i found these pictures on their website! I was so excited. :)

Santa came to Aiden's class! How fun that must've been for Aiden. I remember he told me that he saw Santa when he got home that day & he came home with all kinds of surprises! <3 :)

1 Corinthians 13 Christmas Style

I got this poem in one of my daily emails and i wanted to share. It's such a good reminder. :)

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV).

1 Corinthians 13 Christmas Style©By Sharon Jaynes

If I decorate my house perfectly with lovely plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights, and shiny glass balls, but do not show love to my family - I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals, and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family - I'm just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home, and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family - it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties, and sing in the choir's cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.

Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.

Love is kind, though harried and tired.

Love doesn't envy another home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.

Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of your way.

Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give in return, but rejoices in giving to those who can't.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

Love never fails.

Video games will break; pearl necklaces will be lost; golf clubs will rust.

But giving the gift of love will endure.

Aiden's "Old Time" Photo Shoot

These are the pictures that were taken at Aiden's preschool, La Petite Academy, just this September. They came out so great! We were completely surprised at how well they turned out & how well Aiden did! He normally doesn't cooperate so well when i've taken him to get his pictures done before, lol. Even Daddy liked them and that's saying alot! He doesn't get too excited over pictures anymore since i take SO many of them, lol. So, they must be good if he likes them! lol. :)

A company by the name of Playground Pictures took them. They provided all of the outfits & props for the kids. They have a website at www.playground-pictures.com if you want to check them out. ;)

When we went to pick up Aiden from school one day a few weeks ago, the photographer was there showing off the packages. He told us he was only going to be there until 6:30 that night so we had to buy them right away if we wanted them. Since our finances are really tight right now, we knew we couldn't afford it. We were so bummed out! The photographer told us we would still get a free 8X10 just for viewing them. We decided that we were going to call my mom & see if she could help us out. We knew she would just melt when she saw them! lol! :) Sure enough, she came to the rescue. She bought 1 package for us, and we also got the free 8X10 and also a CD with ALL the poses on it with copyright permissions. :) So, now we can make as many as we like. :) It couldn't have come at a better time, since i normally like to get his pictures done for his birthday every year, and i knew we probably couldn't afford it this year. So these are his 4 year old pictures also. :) Thanks Mom for helping us out! :)

Speech Therapy

i wanted to write an update about Aiden's speech therapy. As you may know, Aiden had fluid in his ears when he was a baby and a little over a year ago, September 2008, he had surgery to get ear tubes & to have his tonsils & adenoids removed. Since he's had the surgery, he hasn't had any ear infections and we have really seen an improvement in his speech since then. He has really come a long way! Back in October of last year, we started taking him to a speech pathologist that was covered through our medical insurance. He was going twice a week for about 6 months. His last appointment was in April 2009, shortly after our wedding. At his final assessment, it showed that he had made tremendous improvements since he first started there. At his last appointment there, the speech pathologist recommended us looking into getting him some speech therapy through the school district, since it is free, once they are in preschool. So, after we got home from our honeymoon and started getting settled in, i started looking into it. I contacted the Rocklin Unified School District to find out where i needed to start to get some speech therapy for him. They told me that they were closed for the summer but they would have someone contact me as soon as school started back up again. In late August, i finally had someone contact me. Ms. Cindy Teakus, the speech pathologist from Parker Whitney School in Rocklin, contacted me and i told her my concerns about Aiden's speech delays and also that we wanted to make sure he was ready for kindergarten. I can't even believe i am saying that! Time flies so fast!! He is almost 4 years old already! :)

So, we made an appointment for his first speech screening on Friday, September 4th. She told us first they would do a screening, just to listen to him & see how he interacts, and if there are any reasons for concern, then they would decide to do a full assessment on him. We met with her on the 4th, and after hearing him talk and watching him play with the toys, she told us she knew that he definitely was going to need some speech therapy. She said she was concerned about his speech since alot of the words that he says are hard to understand. We further discussed our concerns & she explained to me how the speech program works and that he would definitely be qualified for the full assessment. So, we made an appointment for a full speech assessment for Friday, October 2nd.

His speech assessment went well. She brought out several different books and pictures and had Aiden tell her what the pictures were. Then she would ask him to show her where a certain thing was by saying the word and having him point to it. He did pretty well with that. He started getting a little silly and wouldn't say what some of the items were. Some of them i think he wasn't sure or hadn't seen it before. i also told her that he takes a while to warm up to people and i know that he talks alot more at home. Her concern was that he be used to talking & communicating to others in a social setting and at school because that is the only way it is going to help him. If he only talks at home and not at school or in public, that will not help him much. I could see that perspective and how that is important. According to the assessment she gave him, Aiden is still slightly below average for his age. He has shown considerable improvement since he first started going to the speech pathologist about a year ago. I remember the very 1st assessment he had, they told us he was at a 1-2 year old level and he was 3 years old. According to this assessment, the average score is 85-115, and Aiden is around 70 in expressive vocabulary and 73 in receptive vocabulary. He is just a little below average now, where before, he was extremely below average for his age. Ms. Cindy also mentioned that she had talked to Aiden's teachers at La Petite Academy, where he goes to preschool/daycare. They had told her that he has had some aggressive behavior with the kids but has been improving. I told her we had been working with him on that as well. There have just been a couple instances of that happening that we were made aware of, and we made sure to talk to him about it and let him know that he cannot hit others. I believe, and she agreed, that alot of his aggressive behavior could be linked to his speech delays. She said they can get very frustrated if they can't communicate like everyone else so they take it out on them physically.

Anthony & I have been reading books alot more to Aiden since getting married and living under the same household, so we believe that is helping him alot. We also moved him up to full-time daycare after we got married, which i believe has helped him alot too. I think it is a combination of all of these things that is helping him come along. We have noticed that he is much more verbal, is saying alot more words, and he is asking when he wants something. He is also getting much better interacting with other kids. I'm sure with getting this extra help with his speech, it will definitely get him caught up and get him prepared for kindergarten.

Ms. Cindy told us that he will be eligible for kindergarten next year, so she is recommending that he attend the preschool intervention program that she directs. It is a combination of one-on-one speech therapy as well as interaction with other kids in a class setting. I think it will be a good thing for him. :)

Helping a Friend in Need...

Hi everyone. Please read the message from Anthony below. We would appreciate if any of you can help! God bless! :)

Bill Breen is my best friend of almost 23 years and, as many of you are aware, he was the best man at mine and Alisha’s wedding. His wife Reyna is from the Philippines. If you are not aware, her family and friends have been directly affected by the typhoon that hit that country a few days ago.

The following is his email response to me just this morning on the situation:

“Her family, and subsequently our home there is in Baras, Rizal. You will see the town Tanay mentioned (a lot of death there). Tanay is like Sacramento to our west Sacramento. Since Baras is very small, no banks, gas stations, nothing really.. Tanay is the closest town with services.

Our house had 3 feet of water inside it, and some roof damage. But the house there, like most, is made out of cinder block and cement. So mostly just Dirty and full of mud. They have started cleaning. My septic tank (as is everyone’s) is full, and will need pumped out whenever pumping services resume. We have a private well, so the family has drinkable water. They have not turned on the pump yet, since the motor is dirty, but they have a hand pump backup that works.

Out house is two stories..so they moved everything upstairs.

Not so lucky at her moms house that was lower in elevation, and one story. Everything was still inside when the water came. They are still waiting for it to recede completely last I heard. Should be down by now. Then they can sort out was was ruined, versus what can be cleaned and saved.

Seriously.. I would accept donations from your church members if they were so inclined, and insure the money went right away to feed my family and friends there that are displaced. B”

If we could come up with like $200 between everyone that would go a long way in the Philippines. It is a very poor country. Their currency is worth like 1/50th of US money, so $200 US dollars is like a few thousand over there.

Many of you are fellow believers in Christ and as such we are graciously called to follow His example in “giving to those as they have need…” This is not a guilt trip, but simply a plea for us to come together, as each one is able, and help show the Lord’s love in action. Therefore, please don’t take this as an insistence upon your obligation. Many of us have been blessed immensely by Jesus. I can personally testify to His faithfulness in pulling me out of years of darkness and pain and loss and emptiness. I wish to extend a hand to Reyna’s family as Christ has done so mercifully to me, time and time again. If this were happening to my family I sure hope that others would step up and help us in this way.

I know times are tough for many. Lish works for the State so you know our family has personally taken a big financial hit in recent months, but can anyone match my $20.00? Can you give even a $10 bill? To make it easier, I will personally drive to your house if I have to and pick it up. For your convenience, we have arranged a way for you to make a donation directly through Paypal, if that is easier for you. I have posted it on our blog. There is a "donate" button just to the right of the front page on this blog. If you have a problem with the website, you can also go directly to www.paypal.com & send a payment. If you do that, make sure you send it to this email: luckymom2aiden@comcast.net.

So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” Luke 21:3-4

Blessings to each of you and thanks for listening, :)

Aiden's Ear Check-up

Aiden had a follow-up appt. today with his ear doctor, Dr. Evans, at Sacramento Ear Nose & Throat (ENT). He had ear tubes put in his ears in August of last year, as well as getting his tonsils & adenoids removed, so this was another check-up just to see how he was doing.

The appointment went well! When we first got there, one of the nurses gave Aiden a set of Elmo stickers. He was talking to everyone! He was saying "hello" to all the nurses. It was so cute! They just loved him. Who wouldn't? :)

We got called back there. Aiden was talking to the nurse that called us back there and just running all over the place. She was laughing and i told her, "wow, he is definitely talking WAY more than the last time we were here." :) We went into the room and the doctor came in to check his ears. I told him that Aiden had a fever on Wednesday and was complaining about his ears hurting but seemed to be fine now. He checked both of his ears and said, "His ears look perfect!" He asked if they had given him a hearing test yet and i said no, so he wanted to do a hearing test just to see how he is doing with his hearing.

We went back out to the lobby to wait for them to call us back again. He kept saying, "I go back to Suzy's." Aunt Suzy is babysitting him today since her house is close to the dr. so he knew i was taking him back there when we were done with the appt. LOL! :) Aiden was going around the whole waiting room & was just being a show-off for some other patients that were there. He was just being so silly. They were laughing at him. He started befriending this elderly man was there too. It was so cute. He was loving that. :)

We went back for the hearing test. At first they tried to get him to put on some headphones so they could talk to him through the headphones & see how well his ears are responding. He was NOT having it. So, they decided to try something different. They showed some cartoons on the TV screens and some sounds were coming out of the speakers that were in this small room where they do the hearing tests. He did really well! He was responding really fast to the different noises & frequencies. :) They tried another test where they put these small foam tips in his ears and connected it to a machine that detects how well he is hearing things in each ear, but they were only able to do the left ear accurately. He was squirming around ALOT and did not want those things in his ears! They decided that was the best we were going to get. The nurse said that from what they got, he is responding well and his hearing is where it should be for speech. :) YAY!! They said we can get more accurate tests as he gets older and will want to cooperate more. :) They gave him a Thomas the Train sticker for trying. :) I am not worried about it though, i am sure he is fine. As much as he was talking to everyone, there is no doubt! :) The doctor heard him talk too and was very happy to hear that. :)

The doctor pulled us back in one of the patient rooms and showed us the test results and he said everything looks good. We'll go back in 6 months for another check-up. :)

Aiden is definitely coming out of his shell! I was surprised at how social he was being with everyone. He said "bye bye" to everyone. LOL! I am so proud of him. :)

Catching Up

Where do i begin? I figured i should try & get caught up on my blog somehow. I don't have access to a computer all the time so please be patient with me. I've decided since i get to work a little early, i will start trying to blog a little every day if i can. :)

Since starting this blog in January, oh so much has happened!

Of course, my birthday was in February, and our wedding was in March. I am going to try & write some seperate posts for all the special occasions that we took photos for, so watch out for those. All in good time! :)

In May, i found out that i had some bladder tumors that were recurring. So, in June, i had to have another surgery to remove them. I have been going through treatments since then to treat them and to try & prevent them from growing back. I am just trusting in God for complete healing and i have alot of faith & peace about it. :)

Of course, in July, we had the 4th of July holiday. And here we are in August already! I can't believe how fast the year has flown by!

Of course, since our wedding in March, Anthony & I have come along way! Both spiritually and in our relationship with each other. It is indescribable how much God has helped us and we've learned so much in just the 4 months we have been married. God is amazing! :)

I have recently started reaching out to other christian women and getting involved in some of the ministry get-togethers and it has been absolutely amazing! I don't know why i waited so long. I know that i had alot of fears of reaching out to others and i was letting that get in the way. I feel that God is really helping me feel confident in him and that i am truly his daughter. :)

Aiden is doing really well in school. He has been attending La Petite Academy full-time since right after we got married and we have really seen a difference in him since doing that. He is finally starting to warm up to the teachers and the other kids. He has a couple really good friends there that he is always talking about, Ryan & Riley. He also has mentioned Catalina & Emma. :) How adorable! They just told us yesterday that he is finally talking to the kids & teachers! Before that, he would only talk to his friend, Ryan. No one else, not even his teachers. So, he is finally getting comfortable! Towards the end of July, they moved him up to the preschool class, so we are so proud of him! He is fully potty trained now! He still has an accident here and there but overall, he pretty much has it down! :)

We are just so thankful for how far God has brought us and he continues to show us things. I am looking forward to keeping everyone updated on what's going on with our family. :)

Music

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and added music to my page! Anthony & I's favorite artist is Jeremy Camp so I've filled it with his songs. Of course, we have so many more favorite artists but he is at the top of the list. :)

I am hoping that i can start writing more updates on our blog. I am going to try my best!

Mobile Blogging

I am going to try this out. I'm supposed to be able to post to my blog through this new mobile feature. We'll see if this works! Maybe I can keep this updated more since my internet use is very limited!

New Years 2009!

This New Year's Eve, Aiden & I went over to Anthony's house for a little family celebration. It was very nice & relaxing! The past couple years I have just been staying at home & relaxing. I don't like to go out for New Year's Eve anymore. It's just so crazy out there!

We ordered some pizza and had a very relaxing night by the fire. Aiden loved the fireplace! He was standing in front of it and moving his hands back and forth together really fast like he was trying to mimic the fire moving! LOL! He was loving it. After we ate, we all layed down on this big futon mattress that Anthony has spread out on the floor and relaxed. We gave Aiden a bath and put him to bed around his usual bedtime, 8:00. After that, Anthony & I just relaxed and we watched a movie. We watched "Things We Lost in the Fire", no pun intended! LOL! It was a good movie. Very intense & sad too. It started getting to be late and it was close to 11:00, so we got out the sparkling apple cider & we turned on the countdown that was playing on TV. We took a few pictures which I'll have to add to this post when i get a chance. :) When it turned midnight, Anthony & I kissed a couple times. He was trying to get a good picture of it. That's his excuse anyway, LOL! :)

We ended up sleeping on the futon mattress out in the living room & Aiden was sleeping on Daddy's bed. It was a very nice time together. The next morning Aiden woke us up of course & he watched his favorite movie of all time: "Cars". Anthony got a kick out of how glued he was to the screen. LOL! Anthony made breakfast for us too. French toast! Yum! :) Shortly after that, Aiden & I got packed up to go home. I had planned to get a lot of stuff done around the house on New Year's since i had the day off. We are looking forward to all being under the same roof & not having to drive back and forth, especially for times like this. :)

Blogging

Well, my dear and close friend, Brooke, has inspired me to join the wonderful world of blogging! I thought this would be a great idea since we have so much to share in our lives & especially in this coming year with our wedding fastly approaching. We have a great year ahead of us and I'm looking forward to many more of God's blessings coming our way. :)

Stay tuned for some updates on us, our newly blending family, and of course, wedding plans!

Happy New Year everyone! :)
